Alumnae Library Privileges

Welcome, Alumnae!

As an alumna of Agnes Scott College you are invited to make on-site use of many of our resources and to enjoy certain borrowing privileges. The primary mission of the library is to support the information needs of our current students, faculty and staff. Library privileges extended to alumnae and other "guest borrowers" are intended only to supplement the resources available through your own employer, school, or public library.

Guest Registration

The first time you use the library as an alumna, you will complete a brief registration form and present a picture id. We'll verify your alumnae status and issue you a Guest Borrowers Card with a new barcode. We will also enter you into our patron database, or update your record if it is already there.

Circulation

Regular circulating books may be checked out for three weeks. They may be renewed if another patron has not requested them. Any material will be recalled if needed by a current Agnes Scott student or faculty member or if needed for the course reserve shelf. Guest borrowers are limited to checking out ten books at a time. (Periodicals and reference books cannot be checked out.)

Media materials such as dvds, cds, vhs tapes, sound recordings, & media equipment do not circulate to guest borrowers. This is because they are frequently needed on short notice for classes, and because in some cases they have been purchased with restrictions on use. If you have any concerns about your borrowing privileges or have a special request, please contact the Access Services Librarian at 404-471-6337.

Electronic Resources

To use computers, please ask a circulation staff member to log you on to one of our computers designated for visitors. Please see our Computer Use Policy for Visitors for further information. We do, however, reserve the right to allow alumnae to access resources and equipment - for serious research needs - that are generally not available to the public.

Reference Assistance

There is a reference librarian on duty nearly all hours the library is open. Please don't hesitate to ask for help in finding resources. You may call 404-471-6096 for assistance, or ask a question online.

Sorry, but...

The following services are not available to alumnae or other categories of guest borrowers:

circulation of audiovisual materials or equipment;
placing of holds and recalls;
interlibrary use cards;
interlibrary loan;
use of group-study rooms and media-viewing rooms;
and off-campus access to Galileo and/or other databases.

To facilitate the on-site use of materials we provide photocopy machines and the printing or downloading of electronic data.
