| 1. What is Instant Messaging?
Instant
Messaging is a form of electronic communication that uses
software such as AOL Instant Messenger (AIM) and Yahoo!
Messenger to exchange text-based messages between two or more
people in real-time.
2. What is a screen name?
A screen name is a name that you choose to identify
yourself online when instant messaging with others. You will
need to establish a screen name with one of the supported Instant Messaging
services before you can log in and chat with a librarian.

a question to a librarian using our Ask

2. Where can I get Instant Messaging software?
There are several instant messaging options to choose from, McCain
Library IM a Librarian supports the AOL and Yahoo!. Both
are available for free. You can choose to download them (if you're
using your home or work computer) or view them via the web
(if you're on campus).

4. Can I use IM if the computer I'm using doesn't

Yes, you can! If you're using a computer that doesn't have instant
messaging software installed or you do not want to install
it, you can log into your AIM or Yahoo! account via Meebo. |
