Women's History Month
Women's History Month serves to recognize and celebrate women's historic achievements. The theme for 2006 Women's History Month, "Women: Builders of Communities & Dreams," honors the spirit of possibility and hope set in motion by generations of women in their creation of communities and their encouragement of dreams. It also honors women for bringing communities together and for restoring hope in the face of impossible odds.
To accompany the exhibit on the first floor of McCain library, is a companion bibliography consisting of books, journal articles and other information resources, highlighting the achievements of women in their societies.

Inez Milholland Boissevan was a popular speaker for the cause of suffrage, and she refused to cut back her schedule to accommodate her pernicious anemia. She collapsed during a speech in Los Angeles on October 22, 1916. At the hospital, blood transfusions over the next days could not save her, and she died November 25, 1916. Many suffragists considered her a martyr to the cause of woman suffrage. Here, she was depicted with the white horse she rode at the head of the suffrage parade, March 3, 1913.
